In spite of the fact that during his lifetime he was acclaimed for having enchanted youngsters around the world, his accounts were constantly implied for grown-ups too. His verse and stories have been converted into in excess of 150 dialects. They have roused movies, plays, ballet performances and vivified films. Be that as it may, fantasies play the most significant job in his composing profession. Andersen utilized the casual style that camouflages the complex good lessons in his fantasies. In this manner, his stories turned into the most loved ones of the two kids and grown-ups. Probably the most well known stories of Andersen are ââ¬Å"The Little Mermaidâ⬠, ââ¬Å"The Ugly Ducklingâ⬠and ââ¬Å"The Little Match Girlâ⬠, and so forth. Particularly, ââ¬Å"The Little Match Girlâ⬠which is celebrated for its compassionate quality has shaken the hearts of a huge number of perusers on the planet. The story is right off the bat distributed in 1845. This one starts with a young lady who seems, by all accounts, to be distant from everyone else and freezing at New Yearââ¬â¢s Eve. She is a poor young lady who attempts to sell matches at the cool night. She doesnââ¬â¢t return home since she fears her dad who let her out to sell matches. In the wake of finding a spot between two housesââ¬â¢ divider, the poor young lady begins to light matches to warm herself. At the point when matches are consuming, she can see numerous things which make her cheerful. For example, a Christmas tree, an occasion feast, a falling star, and so forth. At that point, the young lady sees a dream of her grandma, the main individual to have rewarded her with affection and thoughtfulness. Hence, she strikes different matches to keep her grandma remain close by as long as could be expected under the circumstances. At last, she can go along with her grandma to the paradise. The following morning, individuals locate her dead on the day off there is as yet the grin on her red cheek. In the story, there are two critical writing components are character and the image. They are the most significant components that cause the story to turn out to be so effective. Right off the bat, the story has just a single primary character: the poor little match young lady. Andersen didnââ¬â¢t give her a particular name so as to underline her hard life. Through the manner in which author present the principle character, perusers can see that the young lady is additionally one among numerous poor kids like her. Truth be told, there are likewise three different characters. They are her relatives: grandma, father and mother. In any case, every one of them are in a roundabout way portrayed through the girlââ¬â¢s appearance, thought and creative mind. Toward the start of the story, she has all the earmarks of being bareheaded and shoeless in an appallingly chilly night. She is conveyed to sell matches in the snow with a couple of sick fitting shoes which used to have a place with her mom. Anyway then she loses one when she is stumbling into the street and when a kid take up the rest. The dad shows up in her idea as a truly flippant dad. In spite of the fact that she is eager and cold, she doesnââ¬â¢t set out to return home. With only a line of thought, a dad who doesnââ¬â¢t love his little girl is presented unmistakably. At last, her last relative, her grandma, is referenced warmly through her brief timeframe life of each consuming match. In the story, there are nothing identified with the mother aside from her evil fitting shoes. Notwithstanding, the little match young lady have no recollections about her mom. While she fears the most is her dad, grandma is the one she cherishes who passed on for so long back. The manner in which Andersen in a roundabout way presents about these three characters features the dejection and the misery of the poor young lady. There is nobody on the planet that thinks about her, they simply attempt to step as fast as possible to keep away from the cool, late night without seeing of a forlorn poor young lady. Besides, the story has a critical image which is consistently in readersââ¬â¢ mind. It is the light of match. After each time the poor young lady lights up match against the divider, the match consumes splendidly and she is drenched inâ the illusionâ of bliss. Right off the bat she envisions that she was sitting before an incredible iron oven. Whenever, the young lady sees a table with spread snow-white fabric and a great deal of scrumptious food arranged for the supper. At that point, the most delightful Christmas tree is by all accounts directly next to her. From that point onward, she meets her dearest grandma lastly, she ceaselessly strikes the entire heap of matches so as to keep the grandma remain with her. After each time the fire go out, everything is disappeared quickly. Accordingly, she needs to return to the hard reality. It tends to be said that the light in this story is the image of dreams of joy. All that she needs at the present becomes more clear than at any other time in the light of the match fire. She just dreams of numerous things which are ordinary to nearly everybody except very extravagance to her. The light is the extension of her hard reality and the upbeat dreams. In this way, the presence of the light all through the story features the feelings, wishes and dreams of the poor young lady. She generally dreams of the beneficial things despite the fact that the life has rewarded her so hard. Is the light additionally the desire of the creator to the young lady and all of other destitute individuals? Through the little girlââ¬â¢s dream, he communicates his kindness to these heartbreaking. Utilizing representation gadget through the light picture, Andersen effectively portrays the fantasies of satisfaction, the little girlââ¬â¢s short life and even the compassionate worth message he need to send to perusers. This image enormously adds to the essentialness and sympathetic nature of the story. To summarize, the story ââ¬Å"The Little Match Girlâ⬠has the extraordinary reality and altruistic worth. It in a roundabout way reflects grievous destiny of the poor in the current Danish society. Additionally, through the story we can see unmistakably the sympathetic heart of the creator and his ability too. Through his story The Loneliness of the Long-Distance R unner and different stories contained inside the book, Sillitoe successfully condemns the lawful arrangement of England, which denies independence from its kin, is incapable and meddles with individuals' lives. His accounts Uncle Ernest, On Saturday Evening, and The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Runner show these topics. The issues introduced still are relevant today. Sillitoe viably censures the legitimate framework in Uncle Ernest. Uncle Ernest is an average workers desolate man who experience a segregated, sad reality. Joan and Alma, whom he becomes a close acquaintence with, are extremely poor and needing a dad figure. Ernest has lost the entirety of his old companions. His family has left him. He is need of organization. He can no longer conceal his dejection like he conceals the couches he re-upholsters professionally. Ernest purchases nourishment for them, garments, and blessings. Every one of the three are upbeat in the rela tionship they have with each other. In any case, at some point, he was told, Now look here, we try not to need any more difficulty from you, yet if at any point we see you close those young ladies once more, you'll wind up before a judge (57). Ernest is denied his life, w cap fulfills him. He is denied the main fellowship he has in light of the fact that the unwritten social code proposes that a man for example, himself become a close acquaintence with little youngsters as such implies that he is a pedophile. The analysts meddle with his life. Sillitoe shows t he legitimate framework makes bogus presumptions, however passes by an unwritten social code that is accusational. The issue of congruity is focal; Ernest is certainly not a typical citizen, along these lines he is further segregated. In On Saturday Afternoon, Sillitoe's story is of an record of a guy hanging himself. The man endure. At the point when found by a copper, he was told, Its illegal. It ain't your life. Furthermore, it's a wrongdoing to end your own life. It's murdering your self. Its self destruction. (103). The lawful framework is insufficient; the man demonstrated to the coppers whose life it was. He leaped out of a clinic window to his demise. Besides, the legitimate framework is addressed. In this practically creepy story, Sillitoe raises the issue of whether the law has an option to choose for another person regardless of whether that individual has an option to end their own life. He answers with a definitive no through his utilization of tone, and by making the copper look silly. Sillitoe's story likewise im handles that the lawful framework meddles with one's life by keeping one from doing as they wish, particularly when it isn't unsafe to other people. At last, and most significantly, The Dejection of the Long-Distance Runner addresses the legitimate framework's adolescent change programs. They can keep an eye on every one of us day to check whether we're pulling our puddings and in case we're doing our 'games', Colin Smith states, yet they can't make a X-beam out of our guts to discover what we're letting ourselves know (10). This is only one of Smith's remarks which fill in as an apparatus of parody, to state that the change framework is ineffectual. It can't change what the children who go throu gh it feel inside. Borstal can cause the understudies to make an insincere effort however it can't change them. At the point when Smith leaves, he says that the a half year was certainly not an awful life (46) also, that his stay at Borstal made him more grounded. It is suggested that he submits a nother thievery. Sillitoe likewise reprimands the framework's absence of thought for the adolescent, but instead close to home greatness. Smith doesn't need to be a sprinter. He doesn't feel any craving to win the race. Smith loses the race since he also isn't a con formist. He won't surrender to the representative. He won't win the race since, It don't mean a bleeding thing to me...only to him (12). Prior to going to Borstal, when a cop interrogates Smith concerning burglarizing the pastry shop, the copper is demonstrated to be unimaginably stupid as Smith ridicules him for quite a long time. Smith haggles with the copper like a legal counselor, asking him where his warrant is what's more, ridiculing him jokingly. Sillitoe shows the knowledge Smith. What makes Smith run? Is it the tranquility of the forested areas, the bea uty of the untamed life and creatures Julien Richterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05841748398354630238noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8949609144360044191.post-5216958710624323382020-08-22T23:09:00.001-07:002020-08-22T23:09:40.044-07:00Old Testament Allusions In Beowulf Essays - Beowulf, Geats, MonstersOld Testament Allusions In Beowulf Theory: The Beowulf writer fuses Old Testament inferences so as to instruct the Anglo-Saxon agnostics about the new religion. Leader of All Adam Bussey Dr Vivone English 4A, Period 5 24 April 2000 Old Testament Allusions in Beowulf Throughout writing, numerous authors have insinuated stories in the Bible. Regardless of whether it's from the Old Confirmation or the New Testament, essayists have paid references to Biblical stories. In abstract investigation, this is called an implication. The Oxford All encompassing English Dictionary characterizes an inference as a kind of perspective, particularly a secretive, or aberrant one (37). On account of Beowulf, the implication is alluding to examples in the Bible. The particular references are to stories told in the Old Testament. During the timespan of the artist of Beowulf, there were numerous Old English Saxon agnostics. The agnostics are individuals not buying in to any of the major religions of the world. Right now, the new religion of Christianity additionally came about in this district. Religion, in this way, is educated through stories, for example, those of the Old Testament. The Beowulf artist fuses Old Testament suggestions so as to show the Anglo-Saxon agnostics about the new religion. The first Biblical implication informed in the epic sonnet is concerning Cain. Cain was a character in the Old Testament who submitted the principal murder. He had developed so envious of his sibling that he killed him. In the Judeo-Christian world, he speaks to the principal genuine malevolence act submitted by man against another man. This is implied by the narrative of the Grendel beast. For a long time, the Grendel beast threatened the individuals of Herot. He came in and slaughtered the occupants by slicing and in any event, eating some of them. This demonstration is a lot of like the demonstration that Cain submitted and along these lines Grendel's activities can be followed back to Cain. Grendel is a relative of Cain since he submitted a similar demonstration of homicide. The Grendel beast likewise didn't have a promising life. His life contained no positive standpoints. He lived in his house just to leave it to execute and loot for treasure. These everyday environments help build up a purpose behind his killings. He still dedicated these demonstrations against man and got malicious for them. Grendel can additionally be connected to Cain by the way that it tells that the Grendel beast, which was initially a Scandinavian troll, speaks to insidiousness and dimness (Tuso104). Since he speaks to detestable, Grendel can be connected to the Old Testament, much the same as that of Cain. The Old Testament inference of Cain is told through the Grendel beast. A second inference that the artist of Beowulf told about is the suggestion to David and Goliath. The narrative of David and Goliath is a simple one. David was a exceptionally little man who was of no match to Goliath. Goliath, then again, was a monster and was practically fantastic. David conflicted with this extraordinary rival and triumphed even with his unthinkable chances. At that point, as a trophy or the like, David cut the head off Goliath and kept it. This story is insinuated in the sonnet through the account of the She-Monster. The She-Monster is Grendel's mom as well. Subsequent to discovering that her child was murdered by the strong Beowulf, she chooses to institute retribution on Beowulf. Be that as it may, Beowulf acts first via scanning for the She-Monster. He discovers her submerged sanctuary, where she likewise has been storing treasure together. Beowulf utilizes the blade he was given; yet it bombs him. Consequently, despite seemingly insurmountable opposition, Beowulf despite everything battles against the goliath She-Monster and keeps on battling. Beowulf inevitably triumphs over the incredible monster and chooses to demonstrate to the individuals that he executed the animal. He gets a blade and cuts the head off the She-Monster. This story line looks like a great part of the story line of David and Goliath. The implication of the She-Monster comes in two close parts. The two implications are to a similar story of David and Goliath. The first is when Beowulf loses his blade and has Julien Richterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05841748398354630238noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8949609144360044191.post-65083874453910771222020-08-22T13:41:00.001-07:002020-08-22T13:41:17.196-07:00Bad TherapyIn the book ââ¬Å"Bad Therapy: Master Therapists Share Their Worst Failuresâ⬠by Jeffrey A Kottler it shows how different advisors use psychotherapy and how the specialists regard certain meetings as terrible treatment. At the point when the creators started this work their point was to make an open door by which the absolute most conspicuous specialists in the field could discuss what they viewed as their most exceedingly terrible work so as to urge different experts to be increasingly open to conceding their mix-ups. The writers are among the 22 specialists who consented to take an interest in the project. The aftereffect of the meetings, all led via phone is this assortment of short and truly coherent records. The certifications of the rundown of supporters of the book are amazing. In the introduction the creators clarified that they chose the members since all were conspicuous and compelling, had an assemblage of distributed work and long stretches of clinical experience. Ar nold A. Lazarus, a pioneer of Behavior Therapy is among the authors. Between them, the writers alone have composed more than 70 books on guiding and psychotherapy. Most of these specialists are working in an open proficient life. They compose books, run instructional classes, address and show their methods to huge expert crowds. They produce tapes and recordings of their work. All through the content there are numerous references to the uneasiness mixed by the idea of the subject on which these specialists were solicited to mirror this on the grounds that from the chance of a claim and laws. Every section is an account of the discussion the creators had with the specialist who was gotten some information about frequencies in their clinical practice which evoked awkward recollections, sentiments of disappointment or blame, or a feeling of failure.Strong accentuation is laid upon what can be gained from the mix-ups. I discovered this and the more broad reflections on the subject of wha t makes treatment awful supportive to me thinking about a profession in the clinical practice. The reviving genuineness of the therapistââ¬â¢s accounts that gave me a feeling of the pressures that emerge during these meetings, ââ¬Å"projecting a picture of perfectionâ⬠, and ââ¬Å"stories of supernatural successesâ⬠(p. 189) or the ââ¬Å"stunning failuresâ⬠(p. ix). These words caused me to ponder the idea of romanticizing and its inverse, debasement on what achievement and disappointment implies in therapy. It additionally helped me to consider the exclusive requirements we put on ourselves as specialist to prepare well and to be seen as working admirably according to our customers, companions, mentors and bosses. There is a vulnerability to what we see as great and what is terrible in treatment. Great and awful can become interwoven with sincerely charged significance along the achievement disappointment street and their utilization is heaps of acceptable proced ures or great translations. The estimation of the standard human contact with the customer can become involved with an uneasiness ridden distraction with the correct method of doing things. At the start of the book, the writers express that they ââ¬Å"tried for a cross segment of delegate styles and hypothetical orientationsâ⬠(p. x). Be that as it may, none of the 22 contributing specialist rehearses in the psychodynamic convention. The remedial relationship is known as being significant and the collaboration among advisor and customer is a lot of the premise of what occurs in these records however the term ââ¬Å"transferenceâ⬠is utilized just a single time or twice and not explained. The term ââ¬Å"countertransferenceâ⬠is utilized in a few spots and with regards to some investigation of relational elements yet this isn't clarified either as an idea or as a helpful edge inside which to comprehend what occurs in the enthusiastic field among specialist and customer. One of only a handful not many special cases happens in the conversation between the creators and Richard Schwartz (p. 51-52) in which the specialist discusses the significance of taking note of countertransference contemplations or practices, remarking that numerous advisors don't consider their own passionate reactions to their clients. In a few records, the advisor was left with a headache of blame or lament because of the awful treatment rehearsed. In the event that a point by point investigation of the transference and countertransference elements had been conceivable then I speculate the focal point of what was terrible may have been moved from it being an awful method or an appalling intercession or possibly procedure to the sort of understanding that psychoanalytic psychotherapists are progressively natural with. Also the effect of oblivious projection and introjections upon ourselves and our clientââ¬â¢s conduct or enthusiastic reaction, a model was given of this event in the primary part when the advisor, Kottler, quickly depicts how he got frantic at a customer who might not dump her oppressive sweetheart, and advised her not to return since he was unable to support her and afterward trusted she got better consideration somewhere else from another therapist. If a method of endeavoring to unwind what occurred in this meeting were to think about the dull activities of a hazardous circumstance in the clientââ¬â¢s life during the meeting, the end this was awful treatment would be extraordinary. The sort of understanding that a psychodynamically prepared specialist or advisor welcomes on a portion of these records comprehends what could occur during a meeting, for example, Jeffrey Kottlers admission to at times feeling imperceptible and superfluous as a component of the individual procedure he experienced in talking the patrons (p.195). The two creators commented that the patrons didn't ââ¬Å"go deeperâ⬠(pgs. 195, 197). Neither truly clarifies what they implied by this and I speculate a comparable notion is felt by numerous specialists. I felt there was a sure absence of profundity and substance to the book on account of the nonappearance of thought of the operations of the oblivious psyche. The importance of ââ¬Å"bad therapyâ⬠must be considered by people perusing the book. But in the book awful treatment implies ââ¬Å"In outline, awful treatment happens when either the customer or the advisor isn't happy with the outcome and when that result can be followed to the therapistââ¬â¢s rehashed errors, misconceptions, or mistakesâ⬠(p. 198). It would be exceptionally fascinating to expand this inquiry of what makes for awful treatment by opening a clinically orientated discussion among psychodynamic instructors and psychotherapists. What is the distinction between awful practice and terrible involvement with psychotherapy and directing would be a decent inquiry to pose. Both the specialists and customers may ev ery once in a while have an awful encounter of one another or of the impacts of our words or of emotions which can't be thought about or satisfactorily contained in a solitary second. On the off chance that we are sufficiently open to be accessible to get our clientââ¬â¢s projections and be influenced by feelings unwittingly planned to be a correspondence, we will no uncertainty feel the awful feelings or the psychological state being anticipated. It will be sufficient to consider this countertransference. If a terrible encounter can't be perceived at that point changing the experience into something reasonable as far as the need of the customer or even the psychological condition of the advisor it could turn into a case of awful treatment. What makes for terrible treatment can't be restricted to dicey methodologies or confused translations or an inappropriate strategies. We are human in relationship to another and continually influenced by the enthusiastic effect different has on us on the off chance that we are not so much sincerely present to the customer for reasons unknown or if the customer is utilizing the advisor to impart their experience of not being reacted to emotionally. The point is that specialists need to discover methods of rising above the experience with the goal that it tends to be comprehended or changed by being given the advantage of astute reflection. This might be a consequence of counseling our inside administrator or of chatting with a believed peer gathering or outer manager or advisor. Another related inquiry has to do with the duty we take upon ourselves for observing and understanding what we call countertransference. In the book the fact of the matter is made, a few times, which we can very effectively name or censure our customers for their awful conduct or opposition or capacity to cause us to feel worn out, furious or irritable. Are we so centered around what the customer does to us and on utilizing this as an accommodating h elpful device that the advisor will dismiss their own perspective or feeling which Freud alerts comparable to countertransference might be meddling with therapistââ¬â¢s capacity? We need our companion associates and directors to help screen advisors perspective and responses to their customers so the capacity to go into the experience of the experience with the customer doesn't transform into an instance of awful practice because of the nonattendance of intelligent reasoning or wise monitoring.I would prescribe ââ¬Å"Bad Therapyâ⬠to the two learners and the more experienced instructors and psychotherapists for its provocative and intriguing substance just as the strange chance to pick up understanding into the brain and feelings of the specialist at work. They are critical in light of the fact that they incite Macbeth to do shrewd and coldblooded things. Desire assumes responsibility for him prior in the play when the witches reveal to him he will be the best. After he as of now has carried out the thing, murdered Duncan, he is sorry for his activities. Out of dread for himself, Macbeth killed Macduff's family and murdered Banquo. Macbeth is caught by his wild desire at the opening of the play when he and Banqou meet the three witches. The witches reveal to Macbeth that he is the Thane of Cawdor, and later will be above all else. They disclose to Banquo that his children will be lords. In a split second Macbeth began to fantasize how he will be the best. He comprehended that with the end goal for him to become lord he needs to murder Duncan. ?My idea, whose murder yet is however fantastical?(Act 1 Sc. 3, p.23). He was considering about the death until the second that he could no longer control his feelings. ?To prick the sides of my expectation, however just vaulting aspiration, which overleaps itself and falls on the other-?(Act 1 Sc. 7, p.41). In light of his ?vaulting desire? he murdered Duncan. Macbeth feels a lot of regret after he has slaughtered the ruler. He comprehends that he has submitted a wrongdoing and will be rebuffed. He is startled to such an extent that he hears voices letting him know:? Macbeth murders rest, ? , Macbeth will rest no more?(Act 2, Sc.2 p. 57). Macbeth is exceptionally annoyed with himself and wishes that he never executed Duncan. ?To know my deed it were best not know myself.? At the point when he hears weird thumping at the entryway he wishes that it awakens Duncan, ?wake Duncan with thy thumping?, anyway it is past the point of no return (Act 2, Sc.3 p. 61). After Macbeth was effectively delegated, his dread didn't relinquish him. Prior in the play directly before the homicide of Duncan, Macbeth was anxious about the possibility that that in the event that he would murder Duncan this wrongdoing would cause issues down the road for him. ? This impartial equity praises the ingredience of our harmed goblet to our own lips?(Act 1 Sc. 7 p. 39). So now when everything appeared to be fine, Macbeth was in reality apprehensive that something wasn't right. He chose to see the witches once more. Hence, their principle concern is to build the quantity of guests to the homestead. This target can be accomplished in the accompanying manners. To begin with, the homestead can be opened for a more drawn out period. Specifically, it very well may be opened in th e entire months as opposed to shutting it from November to March. The ranch can likewise be opened during Christmas and Easter occasions. Second, the quantity of guests can be expanded by arranging instructive outings and unique occasions, for example, move and mentor parties. At last, more income can be created by opening a gifts shop and an eatery. These can be opened through redistributing. Overseeing Processes Introduction Holy Farm at first centered around the creation and offer of milk and grains. Following a decrease in benefits from their center business exercises, Holy Farm was opened up to people in general so as to create more income. Thus, the proprietors of the homestead built vehicle leaves. They additionally built a sheltered survey zone where the guests can watch the draining procedure. As of now, the homestead targets schools and the nearby network with its new administrations. The homestead has a limit of 250 guests for every day. In any case, the proprietors of Ho ly Farm are yet to understand the normal profits for their new pursuit (opening the homestead to general society). Therefore, the ranch is frequently shut from November to March. The quantity of guests is likewise low during the week days. Subsequently, the homestead is generally opened from Friday to Monday. The quantity of guests got on Sundays and Saturdays is typically twofold the quantity of guests who visit the homestead on Monday and Friday. Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Current Capacity The profitable limit of a firm is the aggregate sum of yield as far as products and enterprises it can create inside a given timeframe (Nigel, Alistair and Robert, 2011, p. 299). Potential limit is the most extreme measure of yield that can be created by the firmââ¬â¢s introduced gear and HR (Clark and Robert, 2008, p. 45). Genuine limit is the real measure of products and ventures delivered by the firm inside a specific period. In this way, limit usage ââ¬Å"is the level of the firmââ¬â¢s absolute conceivable creation limit that is really being usedâ⬠. Blessed Farmââ¬â¢s proprietors put resources into a draining parlor in which 150 bovines can be drained utilizing a moderate moving turntable. They likewise developed a display to empower guests to watch the draining procedure. 80 individuals for every hour visited the exhibition from 4.30pm to 7.00pm. This implies the draining parlor was open for two and half hours out of every day. In this way, the limit can be determined by duplicating 80 (guests every hour) by two and half hours. The outcome which is 200 is isolated by 80% to get 250 as the limit or the most extreme number of guests who can visit the homestead in a day. Consequently, the farmââ¬â¢s month to month limit can be outlined in the diagram beneath. The figures for every month are acquired as follows. In April, the complete number of guests is 1,200. By partitioning 1,200 by 4, we get the quantity of guests every week to be 300. So as to get the quantity of guests every day, we separate 300 by 6 and get 50. Hence, the quantity of guests on Monday and Friday is 50, while the quantity of guests on Sundays and Sa turday is 100. This is on the grounds that the quantity of guests on Sundays and Saturdays is twofold the number on Mondays and Fridays. In May, the all out number of guests is 1,800. Partitioning 1,800 by 4 we get the week by week number of guests to be 450. The quantity of guests every day is acquired by separating 450 by 6 to get 75. Subsequently, the quantity of guests on Monday and Friday is 75, while the quantity of guests on Sunday and Saturday is 150.Advertising We will compose a custom exposition test on Holy Farm Management explicitly for you for just $16.05 $11/page Learn More In the long stretch of June, the complete number of guests is 2,800. The quantity of guests every week is gotten by isolating 2,800 by 4 to get 700. The quantity of guests every week is gotten by isolating 700 by 6 to get 116.6. Since we can not get a small amount of a guest we adjust 116.6 to get 117. Accordingly, the quantity of guests on Monday and Friday is 117, while the quantity of guests on S unday and Saturday is 234. The complete number of guests in the period of July is 3,200. By separating 3,200 by 4 we get the quantity of guests every week to be 800. By isolating 800 by 6 we get the day by day number of guests to be 133.3. This can be adjusted with the goal that we get 134 guests for every day. Hence, the quantity of guests on Monday and Friday is 134 and the quantity of guests on Sunday and Saturday is 268. In August, the all out number of guests is 3,400. By isolating 3,400 by 4 we get the week by week number of guests to be 850. The day by day number of guests is gotten by isolating 850 by 6 to get 141.6. By adjusting 141.6 we get 142. In this way, 142 guests are gotten on Monday and Friday and 284 guests are gotten on Sunday and Saturday. In September, the absolute number of guests is 1,800. The week after week number of guests is acquired by isolating 1,800 by 4 to get 450. The quantity of guests every day is acquired by separating 450 by 6 to get 75. Thus, the quantity of guests on Monday and Friday is 75. Be that as it may, on Sunday and Saturday, the quantity of guests ascends to 150 since the quantity of guests for Sunday and Saturday is twofold the quantity of guests for Monday and Friday. At long last, 600 guests were gotten in October. The week after week number of guests is acquired by separating 600 by 4 to get 150. The day by day number of guests is gotten by isolating 150 by 6 to get 25. Consequently, 25 guests are gotten on Monday and Friday, while 50 guests are gotten on Sunday and Saturday. The pace of limit usage has an immediate bearing on the firmââ¬â¢s income and expenses. Specifically, the limit usage rate decides the measure of fixed expenses per unit of an item or administration (Betts, Meadws and Walley, 2000, pp. 185-196). The fixed expenses per unit diminish as the firm expands the rate at which it utilizes its ability. Accordingly, Holy Farm is probably going to have the most minimal expense of facilitating gue sts in August when request is high. Since the fixed expenses are low and the income is high because of the expansion in the quantity of guests, the firm is probably going to make high benefits. From November to March when request is extremely low, the fixed expenses per unit are probably going to be high. In this way, the Farm is probably going to make low benefits or even loses since the fixed expenses stay consistent while the income diminishes as the quantity of guests lessens. The consequence of the limit evaluation shows that the homestead has not had the option to get 250 guests for each day. Thus, the proprietors of the ranch must utilize accessible assets to build the quantity of guests to 250 for every day.Advertising Searching for exposition on business financial matters? As we approach each of lifeâs proverbial forks in the road, we are not faced merely with two potential courses of action; rather, as many as four choices appear at each fork. The right path. Often the correct decision is glaring: the right path is illuminated, clear for miles, obvious to everyone. Whenever this is the case, seize the opportunityâ"take the right path. The wrong path. Some paths are blatantly incorrect, crammed with unnecessary obstacles and venomous creatures. Avoid these routes, even when they seem beautiful, tantalizing, or easy. The left path. Sometimes the fork presents two equally viable options: the right path is right, but so is the leftâ"or maybe you cannot tell which path is correct. In these instances, it is most important to simply pick either path, using all available relevant information, and keep moving forward. Even if we pick the wrong path, we grow from the failure. No path. When faced with two unknown pathsâ"left and rightâ"we often freeze with indecision, and then we stay stuck with decision-making paralysis. This is the worst option of all: not deciding is always a bad decision. Read this essay and 150 others in our book, Essential. Subscribe to The Minimalists via email. In the study a male or female model was aggressive toward a bobo doll, the children were then observed to see if they imitated any behaviour shown by the model, or if they were/werenââ¬â¢t aggressive. There were also 2 control groups, one of which had seen a non aggressive male/female model and another group was observed after seeing no model. The results showed that the children were more aggressive when they had seen the aggressive model. Boys were, on average, more aggressive than girls. The gender of the model also had an affect on the behaviour of the children. Boys were moreâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦This may have made the child more aggressive than it would usually have been which would show that child as being more aggressive and so affecting the results. There was also a big cultural change in the years following Bandurasââ¬â¢ study. When this study took place there were very stereotypical views of men and women, this means that the children may have been reluctant to copy the behaviour of the aggressive female model, but were more likely to copy the behaviour of the aggressive male model, because society at the time expected more aggression from men. Girls may also have been less aggressive at that time because it was what was expected from society and vice versa with the boys. 2. Another problem with snapshot studies as they really go against the point of developmental psychology. They donââ¬â¢t look at how children develop and change over time, a snapshot just looks at one aspect over a very short period of time. Generalisations are then made of all children and young people, from the results of a few children of a certain age. In the Bandura study he used children of a nursery age and observed them for only 20mins; the results are then seen has having big implications on television and computer games. Soumenjit Mitra Value Creation Paper MBUS 627 Introduction The history of Microsoft is a textbook case of the power of broad vision. In the early days, Microsofts MS-DOS competed head to head with IBMs OS/2. Where IBM was myopically fixated on large customers as the only part of the market, Microsoft saw the market more broadly as every person in the world. This allowed them to take market share and become the monolithic corporation they are today by making their operating systems cheaply available to everyone. This was an early example of their value creation, since that time they have taken to a different method, but they still continue to create value for their customers. Value Creation Methods Microsoft uses a very simple method of designing products. This starts with reverse innovation, or starting with what the customer wants. They simply ask customers what is missing from previous operating systems and attempting to incorporate the ideas in new products. This is one part of the empathic design process which they employ. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Value Creation by Windows" essay for you Create order The second part is to make heavy use of prosumption. For example, the typical way a software company operates is to develop an ââ¬Å"alphaâ⬠version of the software, work it over in house until it is mostly stable, then release to select members of the market a ââ¬Å"betaâ⬠version for further testing. This allows the remaining bugs to be worked out of the program so that the final version requires little if any patching. When Microsoft released Windows ME, they took a different approach. They released for sale what most companies would have considered the alpha version of Windows ME, which resulted in numerous technical difficulties and complaints, which they took and worked the fixes into Windows XP, which was released in its beta version. In this way, Microsoft saved the cost of alpha and beta testing, beat the competition to market, and had the general public pay for the privilege of finding all the bugs in the program (Tynan). They used the same technique with Windows Vista. This process is also closely related to their use of mass collaboration. This combines with the experience of their employees the needs of the consumer. Microsoft also has various applications which are modifiable with their . net programming language, which allows end users to create their own applications. They also partner with other companies such as IBM, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, and others to have Microsoft operating systems come standard in many product bundles. In this way, the development team for their products extends far beyond the limits of Microsoft. It is this very process which has allowed them to be in more contact with the market than the competition. When the personal computer market was just beginning to grow, Digital Research was far larger than Microsoft in both number of employees and market share. Yet while that company was focusing on developing the best operating systems and assuming everyone would be able to see how good they were, Microsoft was agreeing to work with IBM to produce an operating system which would interface with just about every piece of hardware IBM could build. This was then offered to a new market, the personal computer market, a market comprised of customers who knew little about computers and just wanted them to work without effort. Microsofts product provided that flexibility to accommodate virtually everything an average customer could want to do with a computer. This attention to what the market desired, combined with a dash of anti-competitive behavior, allowed Microsoft to bring a product to market which better matched the needs of most consumers and thus dominate the personal computer industry early on. Since then, their attention to the customer needs has allowed them to continue to provide the level of value seen early on. The Value of Microsofts Operating Systems: Benefits Value is benefit minus cost. As previously stated, the main benefit of Microsofts operating systems is that they allow average users to unlock as much potential of the computer as they are likely to want. This fits with the benefits of using Microsofts products falling into two categories, performance and perception. The performance aspect of the operating system refers to what it allows the end user to actually accomplish. The perception aspect refers to what it makes the market believe it allows the end user to accomplish as well as how the customers view Microsoft in relation to the rest of the market. The Value of Microsofts Operating Systems: Performance To begin with, the performance is acceptable. For most users who want to browse the Internet, write papers, use spreadsheets, track expenses, play games, etc, Microsofts operating systems allow them to take a computer off the shelf turn it on and have it work. This is especially useful for organizations, such as universities, who require many computers and want them all the same and easily managed. In terms of physical efficiency, that will be discussed in depth in the cost section, but for now it is sufficient to say the Microsoft operating systems unlock a moderate amount of the true potential of a computer. That said, because Microsoft products account for roughly 80% of the operating system market, the network effects allow the users to be fairly confident that their computers will all interact with each other without too much difficulty and they can easily find people who can support the computers. Thus for the ordinary person the Microsoft product allows them to realize a sufficient level of performance to keep them happy. Perception The perception of Microsoft products in the market place is vastly different than its actual performance. Windows is seen by many as the operating system of the common person. This came about in large part because Microsoft set out with the intention of making an operating system which could be all things for all people, a ââ¬Å"plug it in and let it goâ⬠operating system. As a consequence, the average user sees Windows as what ââ¬Å"everybody uses,â⬠because with an 80% market share most everyone does use it. This in essence builds a brand community which encompasses the vast majority of the market and allows the users to feel connected to everyone else who also uses Windows. There is also the perception that any program worth using must work on Windows, and thus many programs are written for the operating system. Compared to the other operating systems users, Windows users feel they are saner than the alternatives. Mac users are seen as being ââ¬Å"snobs,â⬠or at least outsiders while Linux users are seen as being ââ¬Å"geeksâ⬠and ââ¬Å"hackersâ⬠while those operating systems are seen as being too expensive or too difficult to use. Compared to both of these groups, Windows users then feel like ââ¬Å"regular,â⬠ââ¬Å"normalâ⬠people by being in the mainstream. Costs The life cycle cost of running Microsoft products is more complicated than most people realize. To begin with, there is the price of the operating system, which varies based on which version but is somewhere between $119 and $300. This price is usually bundled in with new computers on which Windows comes preinstalled rather than a separate line item. The second part of the price is in the form of the Office Suite usually required to make a computer usable for most people. This costs $150, which brings the total dollar price of Microsofts operating system to somewhere between $269 and $450 for the single computer customer. Microsoft often offers discounts to larger customers and regularly donates their product to schools and other not-for-profit organizations. The second cost, the acquiring cost, is the computer system requirements to run Microsofts products, meaning the minimum physical specifications a computer must have to be able to run the operating system. In the case of Microsofts latest operating system, Windows 7, this means a 1 gigahertz processor, 1 gigabyte of random access memory, 16 gigabytes of hard drive space, and a DirectX 9 graphics device (Windows System Requirements). While none of this ââ¬Å"technical speakâ⬠may seem like an issue, or even make sense to the common person, it is fairly simple to put this in monetary terms. The processor and memory will cost approximately $20 each, an 80 GB hard drive is $50, the video card will cost $12 and the motherboard to complete the computer will cost an additional $20 for a total hardware cost of $122. This makes a grand total for the computer of $572â⬠. Of course this price is assuming the customer bought the parts separately; many manufacturers have price discounts with Microsoft and parts suppliers thereby reducing the price. These numbers are just to provide a more concrete example of how system resources requirements cost the customer extra and to allow comparison to other competitors later. The ownership cost of Microsoftââ¬â¢s operating system is more difficult to calculate. This refers to the amount of time spent fixing bugs or calling technical support because of problems. One part of that is the price they place on customer support, which in 2007 was $59 per incident after the first 90 days of ownership (Lai). The rest of this cost is difficult to quantify because people who have down time but fix the problem themselves do not report this. For the most part, that accounts for all the costs of using Microsoft operating systems. The final piece of the life cycle cost, disposal costs, varies from place to place, but for the most part being rid of old computers is not costly. This allows the estimation of the products value. The Value of Microsoft Operating Systems Due to the perception value of Windows, total value is difficult to quantify. For the most part, the functionality does cover its cost for most users because of the one-size-fits-all ability. This creates value, and when that value is combined with the perceptions customers hold, Windows does create value for the customer. How much value is impossible to put a number to, but there is value being created. The question however is not whether there is value created, but whether there is economic value created. The Economic Value of Microsoft Operating Systems To calculate the economic value of Microsofts operating systems, the value from above is subtracted from the value of the competition. This is difficult to do because there are no actual numbers, and market perception makes a large difference. However, it is fairly easy to compare performance and price. MacBooks provide the most serious competition to Microsoft. They come as a bundle of software and hardware for a cost of $999. In terms of performance, they are equivalent to Microsofts offerings for many users, though Mac owners might disagree with that statement. For certain applications, such as video processing, the Mac operating system is far superior to Windows, but for most users the difference is hardly noticeable. Thus when compared to Mac, and for the general market, Microsofts offering creates a value of approximately $427 because the performance value is the same but the cost is lower. Obviously, these two products are targeted towards slightly different users, but for the average user needing an average computer, this would be the value of Microsoft over Mac. Comparing Microsoft to its other competitor is much more challenging and less kind to Microsoft. Ubuntu is a distribution of Linux, which is an open-source operating system. It is a free download, so there is no cost associated with price. Further, its system requirements are a 300 megahertz processor, 64 megabytes of random access memory, 4 gigabytes of hard drive space, and a video card (Ubuntu System Requirements). Components with these specifications are no longer in production and can often be obtained by collecting computers which are being discarded by Windows users as obsolete. Thus the cost of obtaining the components is also virtually free. If a person feels like paying for the computer, Dell sells Linux computers which are the same as the Windows computers only without the operating system cost and likely to last almost twice as long. Linux is also virtually virus free, meaning the cost of virus protection associated with Windows is absent in Linux, and because the computer lasts longer the total life cycle cost is spread out over more years. Linux, like Mac, provides approximately the same level of performance as Windows for the average user. For the advanced user, it unlocks far more potential than Windows can, as evidenced by its considerably lower system requirements. This aspect is difficult to quantify, but for most people, Linux can satisfy all their requirements, though the perception in the market clearly does not agree. Where Linux falls short of Windows, aside from the perception aspect, is its lack of network effects. Finding people who know how to install Linux on a large scale is difficult, though Linux is much better at forming networks of computers. The only actually quantifiable cost to running Linux which is greater than the comparative cost of running Windows is in down time. If there is a problem with Linux, it can be more time consuming to fix because assistance is more difficult to find and the end user often must fix the problem, though often the advice on how to fix it is also free. Thus from a purely technical aspect, Microsofts offering has a negative value. Against this competitor, perception is the source of the value creation. Because the market sees Linux users as ââ¬Å"geeksâ⬠and Linux as far too difficult to use, Microsoft holds itself out as a better choice. This perception is slowly being overcome, however, by distributions of Linux such as Ubuntu by Canonical and SuSE by Novell both being developed with the goal of being as user friendly and ââ¬Å"geeklessâ⬠as Windows. This helps explain why Linux is slowly eroding Microsofts market share; but for now, the perception aspect and network effects of Windows still allow Microsoft to create value over Linux. How to Improve the Situation The ââ¬Å"everything for everyoneâ⬠design has allowed Microsoft to take a vast majority of the market share, but at the same time it has created numerous technical difficulties, many of which result in what is colloquially known as the ââ¬Å"blue screen of death. â⬠One way for Microsoft to increase its value creation is to reduce the number of instabilities and crashes thereby reducing downtime and technical support calls. This would mean reducing their use of prosumption because putting products into the market when they have so many defects, while cheaper for the company, does not create as much value for the customer. If they released their operating systems at the level of Windows XP or Windows 7 instead of at the Windows ME or Vista level, that would improve their value offering to the market. Secondly, reduce the price of the operating system. Once the research and development is done, the marginal cost of producing the next unit is less than $5 (CD costs) each yet they sell for almost $300. This indicates there may be room to decrease the price and still make a profit, which would also increase the value to the market. They are in the same place IBM was with OS/2. IBM held such a high price for the operating system that even though it was technically superior to MS-DOS, it lost because the market moved towards the cheaper alternative. With competitors like Linux out there, Microsoft should strongly consider reducing prices to create more customer value or it risks losing customers to the competition as the perception of the market shifts. Conclusion Microsofts value creation and competitive advantage is largely based on market perception. As they enter the next decade where more people will be more technically savvy, this advantage could well be eroded. To be ready for this shift, they should begin searching for ways to deliver more concrete value to the customer so that as they lose their perception advantage it can be replaced by a value advantage. Failure to do so could easily lead to being defeated much like Microsoft beat out IBM. This seems to be one of Americaââ¬â¢s favorite pastimes. But with all the violence that is involved with television programs the question arises on weither or not network television should be censored. It seems unlogical for theses censoring to take place. Network television should not be censored because of our freedom of speech rights, more violence is on cable, and it is the parentââ¬â¢s responsibility to monitor what children are viewing not the networks. nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;ââ¬Å"I do not favor censorship and I am jealous of my First Amendment Rights,â⬠Eron pg 617 To evoke censorship onto network television would most definitely take away our first amendment right. Censorship may stop the viewing of violence on t.v. but it will still be seen. It is not up to networks and producers to decide weither a show is to violent for children. Different people will have different views as to what is suitable. It is solely the parentââ¬â¢s responsibility, ââ¬Å"American Psychological Association..reported in 1992 that be the end of elementary school the average American child has watched..many acts of violence on television.â⬠The problem of controlling what children watch is not the networks responsibility it is the parents. It suggests that individual personalities are comprised of broad dispositions, and it identifies and measures the characteristics that they are made up of (Cherry). The trait perspective helps to identify a personââ¬â¢s personality type (Myers). This perspective focuses on the difference between individual personalities and the traits that shape them. A trait is a stable characteristic that causes an individual to behave a certain way. A personââ¬â¢s personality is made up of a special combination of various traits that are unique to each individual (Cherry). In 1936, psychologist Gordon Allport categorized all of the traits into three levers:â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦There are ten personality disorders, each of which describes different malfunctions in the personââ¬â¢s characteristic combination. These disorders are categorized into three clusters; cluster A, cluster B, and cluster C. Disorders are placed into the cluster with other similar disorders. Cluster A is the ââ¬Å"odd, eccentricâ⬠cluster, so paranoid personality disorder, schizoid personality disorder, and schizotypal personality disorder fit into this group. Cluster B is the ââ¬Å"dramatic, emotional, erraticâ⬠cluster; it contains antisocial personality disorder, borderline personality disorder, histrionic personality disorder, and narcis sistic personality disorder. And lastly, cluster C is the ââ¬Å"anxious, fearfulâ⬠group, in which avoidant personality disorder, dependant personality disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder are placed (Hoermann). First of the disorders of cluster A is paranoid personality disorder. With this disorder, the patient normally has a history of pervasive distrust and suspiciousness of others. He or she will almost always believe the motives of others to be malevolent. Someone with this disorder will have extreme paranoia, causing him or her to think that everyone is out to harm him or her, even though there is no evidence to prove this, which results in the destruction of virtually every relationship he or she has. Answer: Introducation This describes a feeling of sadness for a long period of time for example weeks, months or even years and sometimes with no apparent reason. A diagnosis can take weeks and it is important to rule out general medical issues since some conditions such as vitamin deficiency share the symptoms of depression. Signs and Symptoms of Depression: Loss of interest in activities once enjoyed Appetite variations Loss or gain in weight disparate from dieting Fatigue Lack of sleep Difficulty in concentration Suicide thoughts Schizophrenia It is a severe mental disorder that affects an individuals thinking, behavior and feelings. Signs and Symptoms: Psychosis Disorderly movements Trouble focusing Reduced expression of emotions through speaking and facial expressions Hallucinations Delusions Anxiety Disorders These are feelings of dread over anticipated activities. Signs and Symptoms: Excessive worry over everything for a long period of time Fatigue as a result of restlessness Trouble sleeping Overwhelming and disruptive fear Muscle tension which includes flexing muscles regularly and jaw clenching Problems in concentration Chronic indigestion characterized by Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), in which individuals management stomachaches, cramping, bloating, constipation and/or diarrhea Panic attacks; a sudden gripby fear that can last several moments Stage fright Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) In this case, the patient experiences uncontrolled re-occurring thoughts (obsessions) and patterns of behavior (compulsions). Signs and Symptoms: Lack of concentration due to excessive thoughts or actions Repeated checks on activities already carried out Irresistible fear Aggressiveness towards others or oneself Overwhelming need for perfection for example, always arranging items in a particular, precise way. Violence In most societies, it is believed that mentally ill patients are threatening and dangerous to other people around them. They are viewed as being unpredictable and thus they are treated differently from other individuals (Ahonen et al., 2017). These beliefs, however,do not have any factual basis to support them. Even people without mental disabilities could be violent depending on the situation and their personalities. This interpretation makes the patients feel different and discriminated, especially if other people act in accordance with it. Demonic or Spirit possession: Some societies still hold the belief that individuals with mental illnesses are possessed by an evil spirit. This gives rise to fear and caution by other people thus discrimination of the affected ones. Medical Facilities for mental Health Problems The mental health facilities are set up in such a way that suggests these illnesses are different from other medical conditions and could lead to physical dysfunction. Controllability Many people believe that most mental and personal disorders are within the individuals personal control. If the patient does not get better on their own therefore, they are considered weak or lacking personal effort and are therefore blamed for their misfortunes (Gronholm et al, 2017). This refers to the visibility of the symptoms of a mental disorder. In this case, mental health problems that do not have easily discernible signs and symptoms such as depression are disregarded as people believe that they are not as serious as the ones with straightforward indicators. These individuals therefore feel discarded and not cared for. Societal Education: Social workers should try as much as possible to edify the members of the society on exactly what mental disorders, their types, symptoms and how to care for mentally ill individuals. They should clarify that people with mental health problems are not responsible for their conditions and therefore should be aided rather than blamed for those conditions (Glajz et al., 2017). The social workers should also continuously campaign against the beliefs held on mental illnesses and urge people to come forward or seek for help for themselves and their loved ones as soon as they suspect they have a mental healthcare disorder (MacDonald-Wilson et al., 2017). They can launch a campaign through social media to each as many people as possible with the aim of challenge peoples beliefs on mental disorders. These are a set of rules and standards that can be applied to certain situations for achievement of goals and reflection of the operations of the Psychiatric Rehabilitation field. These principles include: Individualization of all Services: This refers to focusing on the individual clients needs and desires. Indras personal wishes should be observed more keenly and the mental health facility should discourage him from alcohol consumption to facilitate his recovery. Strengths Focus The psychiatric practitioners at Community Mental Health Intervention Team (COMIT) should focus on Indras abilities, for example the fact that he wants to be financially independent and move on with his life and help him in doing this rather than paying too much attention to his alcohol consumption. Situational Assessments These valuations focus on the clients personal goals and therefore are more effective than global assessments that do not relate to the individuals specific goals. Treatment/Rehabilitation Integration COMIT should view Indra as a complex individual and take into account all aspects of his life affected by the rehabilitation process. It should especially focus on rehabilitation which aids in overcoming barriers and pursuing ones dreams as opposed to treatment which is a mere relief in the symptoms experienced. Coordinated Ongoing Assessments In Indras case there is a stipulated time in which he should move out of his brothers flat. COMIT should not let him make such a decision since rehabilitation is an ongoing process and requires time to heal. His family should also encourage him to be patient and focus on his rehabilitation process. The service providers should be hopeful regarding their clients recovery (Hutchison, et al., 2017). In Indras situation, his family and his practitioner should be expectant for better results and discourage him from taking comfort in alcohol. Capacity to Learn and Grow Another value of psychiatric rehabilitation is the belief that everyone has the capacity to be better. COMIT and Indras household members should motivate him to acquire new enjoyable skills that will keep him busy and probably b ring him some income as a way of showing him that he can be more productive and enabling him avoid alcohol consumption. Respect and Dignity Preservation Rehabilitation facilities should understand that the illnesses do not make the patients less human (Priester, et al, 2016). Indras sister and brother should politely explain to Indra the effects of alcohol on his recovery and aid him in pursuing his goals instead of quarrelling. Acceptance The first step that Diana should take to rehabilitation is accepting that she is ill. She is only interested in getting her job back meaning that she does not realize how serious her condition is or she does not care. Admitting that she needs recovery more than a job would be an important step towards Dianas restoration (Thoits, 2016). This can be achieved by enabling her to understand the difference between her symptoms and her true self, which would bring to light her mental status. Engaging other people These include friends and family members who can help her spot symptoms that she cannot identify on her own and support her through her rehabilitation process (Koslowski et al., 2016). Healthy lifestyle Now that she is no longer busy working, Diana should focus on building a healthy lifestyle such as exercising and eating healthy meals which would facilitate her recovery process. She should reduce her worry about getting her job back and put all her energy into recovery, which would probably bring to light other opportunities and help her identify other enjoyable hobbies or acquire new skills and techniques. Programme Options Diana should talk with the psychiatric medical social worker about her disinterest in the programme in order to have suggestions for other options that would better contribute to regaining her health and have a better experience (McGurk et al., 2017). The best programme for her would be one that is enjoyable to her and in which she is actively involved. It should also portray the capability of her gaining new skills and acquiring knowledge that would enable her get another occupation after recovery. Alternatively, it should have the ability to aid her in further building her career in case there is a chance of re-acquiring her previous employment. References Ahonen, L., Loeber, R., Brent, D. A. The tallest mountain in Japan is Mount Fuji and it is considered sacred by many Japanese people and known as an icon for Japan to many foreigners. it is possible that this is the reason for Hokusais fascination with the mountain the sacred object among Japanese but also an object of fascination and tourism for those coming from other places which is true even to this day. it was for this reason that it was common for the prints to be purchased as souvenirs of Mount Fuji and Japan because at the time Mount Fuji was visible from all over was is now Tokyo. November 22, 1963 was an important and sorrowful day in American history. It was the day John F. Kennedy was shot. Many of the facts from this day are common knowledge to almost anyone who has ever taken a high school level class in history. Kennedy was shot by Lee Harvey Oswald, who was hiding in the Texas Schoolbook Depository, as his car passed through Dealey Plaza in Dallas , Texas . It gives the reader an idea of what to expect from your write-up and serves as a guide to success. The most difficult thing about writing a sample source analysis essay is finding a good one that you really like. For example, if you choose to have someone else write your sample essay, it will be very difficult to get an unbiased opinion because they are biased toward their employer or you. You should also be careful about writing your own essay. This can be a challenge and many people feel lost at the process.Your resume or cover letter needs to spell your full name. You need to spell your name out each time and include the name you use for your resume. Another tip is to tell everyone in your sample essay your full name, so that you can come across as being more professional. The language you use should reflect professionalism and should also refle ct a good essay. If you don't care about grammar, then writing an essay is easy for you, but if you do care about grammar, you should use the 'spacing' between words and make sure the sentences flow nicely. If you can learn these skills, you will be writing a much better essay. The style of writing your essay should also be appropriate with the proper spelling. Effectively arguing for a position on a topic or issue isnââ¬â¢t just for the debate team- itââ¬â¢s for anyone who wants to ace the essay portion of an exam or make As in college courses. To give you everything you need to know about how to write an argumentative essay, weââ¬â¢re going to answer the following questions for you: What is an argumentative essay? How should an argumentative essay be structured? How do I write a strong argument? Whatââ¬â¢s an example of a strong argumentative essay? What are the top takeaways for writing argumentative papers? By the end of this article, youââ¬â¢ll be prepped and ready to write a great argumentative essay yourself! Now, letââ¬â¢s break this down. What Is an Argumentative Essay? An argumentative essay is a type of writing that presents the writerââ¬â¢s position or stance on a specific topic and uses evidence to support that position. The goal of an argumentative essay is to convince your reader that your position is logical, ethical, and, ultimately, right. In argumentative essays, writers accomplish this by writing: A clear, persuasive thesis statement in the introduction paragraph Body paragraphs that use evidence and explanations to support the thesis statement A paragraph addressing opposing positions on the topic- when appropriate A conclusion that gives the audience something meaningful to think about. Introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion: these are the main sections of an argumentative essay. Those probably sound familiar. Where does arguing come into all of this, though? Itââ¬â¢s not like youââ¬â¢re having a shouting match with your little brother across the dinner table. Youââ¬â¢re just writing words down on a page! ...or are you? Even though writing papers can feel like a lonely process, one of the most important things you can do to be successful in argumentative writing is to think about your argument as participating in a larger conversation. For one thing, youââ¬â¢re going to be responding to the ideas of others as you write your argument. And when youââ¬â¢re done writing, someone- a teacher, a professor, or exam scorer- is going to be reading and evaluating your argument. If you want to make a strong argument on any topic, you have to get informed about whatââ¬â¢s already been said on that topic. That includes researching the different views and positions, figuring out what evidence has been produced, and learning the history of the topic. That means- you guessed it!- argumentative essays almost always require you to incorporate outside sources into your writing. Argumentative essays are unique(just like this umbrella)...which means you need to use specific techniques to write them! What Makes Argumentative Essays Unique? Argumentative essays are different from other types of essays for one main reason: in an argumentative essay, you decide what the argument will be. Some types of essays, like summaries or syntheses, donââ¬â¢t want you to show your stance on the topic- they want you to remain unbiased and neutral. In argumentative essays, youââ¬â¢re presenting your point of view as the writer and, sometimes, choosing the topic youââ¬â¢ll be arguing about. You just want to make sure that that point of view comes across as informed, well-reasoned, and persuasive. Another thing about argumentative essays: theyââ¬â¢re often longer than other types of essays. Why, you ask? Because it takes time to develop an effective argument. If your argument is going to be persuasive to readers, you have to address multiple points that support your argument, acknowledge counterpoints, and provide enough evidence and explanations to convince your reader that your points are valid. Our 3 Best Tips for Picking a Great Argumentative Topic The first step to writing an argumentative essay deciding what to write about! Choosing a topic for your argumentative essay might seem daunting, though. It can feel like you could make an argument about anything under the sun. For example, you could write an argumentative essay about how cats are way cooler than dogs, right? Itââ¬â¢s not quite that simple. Here are some strategies for choosing a topic that serves as a solid foundation for a strong argument. Choose a Topic That Can Be Supported With Evidence First, you want to make sure the topic you choose allows you to make a claim that can be supported by evidence thatââ¬â¢s considered credible and appropriate for the subject matter...and, unfortunately, your personal opinions or that Buzzfeed quiz you took last week donââ¬â¢t quite make the cut. Some topics- like whether cats or dogs are cooler- can generate heated arguments, but at the end of the day, any argument you make on that topic is just going to be a matter of opinion. You have to pick a topic that allows you to take a position that can be supported by actual, researched evidence. (Quick note: you could write an argumentative paper over the general idea that dogs are better than cats- or visa versa!- if youââ¬â¢re a) more specific and b) choose an idea that has some scientific research behind it. For example, a strong argumentative topic could be proving that dogs make better assistance animals than cats do.) You also donââ¬â¢t want to make an argument about a topic thatââ¬â¢s already a proven fact, like that drinking water is good for you. While some people might dislike the taste of water, there is an overwhelming body of evidence that proves- beyond the shadow of a doubt- that drinking water is a key part of good health. To avoid choosing a topic thatââ¬â¢s either unprovable or already proven, try brainstorming some issues that have recently been discussed in the news, that youââ¬â¢ve seen people debating on social media, or that affect your local community. If you explore those outlets for potential topics, youââ¬â¢ll likely stumble upon something that piques your audienceââ¬â¢s interest as well. Choose a Topic That You Find Interesting Topics that have local, national, or global relevance often also resonate with us on a personal level. Consider choosing a topic that holds a connection between something you know or care about and something that is relevant to the rest of society. These donââ¬â¢t have to be super serious issues, but they should be topics that are timely and significant. For example, if you are a huge football fan, a great argumentative topic for you might be arguing whether football leagues need to do more to prevent concussions. Is this as ââ¬Å"importantâ⬠an issue as climate change? No, but itââ¬â¢s still a timely topic that affects many people. And not only is this a great argumentative topic: you also get to write about one of your passions! Ultimately, if youââ¬â¢re working with a topic you enjoy, youââ¬â¢ll have more to say- and probably write a better essay. Choose a Topic That Doesnââ¬â¢t Get You Too Heated Another word of caution on choosing a topic for an argumentative paper: while it can be effective to choose a topic that matters to you personally, you also want to make sure youââ¬â¢re choosing a topic that you can keep your cool over. Youââ¬â¢ve got to be able to stay unemotional, interpret the evidence persuasively, and, when appropriate, discuss opposing points of view without getting too salty. In some situations, choosing a topic for your argumentative paper wonââ¬â¢t be an issue at all: the test or exam will choose it for you. In that case, youââ¬â¢ve got to do the best you can with what youââ¬â¢re given. In the next sections, weââ¬â¢re going to break down how to write any argumentative essay- regardless of whether you get to choose your own topic or have one assigned to you! Our expert tips and tricks will make sure that youââ¬â¢re knocking your paper out of the park. Think of your thesis as the trunk of a tree. Its job is to support your arguments- which are like the branches. The Thesis: The Argumentative Essayââ¬â¢s Backbone Youââ¬â¢ve chosen a topic or, more likely, read the exam question telling you to defend, challenge, or qualify a claim on an assigned topic. What do you do now? You establish your position on the topic by writing a killer thesis statement! The thesis statement, sometimes just called ââ¬Å"the thesis,â⬠is the backbone of your argument, the north star that keeps you oriented as you develop your main points, the- well, you get the idea. In more concrete terms, a thesis statement conveys your point of view on your topic, usually in one sentence toward the end of your introduction paragraph. Itââ¬â¢s very important that you state your point of view in your thesis statement in an argumentative way- in other words, it should state a point of view that is debatable. And since your thesis statement is going to present your argument on the topic, itââ¬â¢s the thing that youââ¬â¢ll spend the rest of your argumentative paper defending. Thatââ¬â¢s where persuasion comes in. Your thesis statement tells your reader what your argument is, then the rest of your essay shows and explains why your argument is logical. Why does an argumentative essay need a thesis, though? Well, the thesis statement- the sentence with your main claim- is actually the entire point of an argumentative essay. If you donââ¬â¢t clearly state an arguable claim at the beginning of your paper, then itââ¬â¢s not an argumentative essay. No thesis statement = no argumentative essay. Got it? Other types of essays that youââ¬â¢re familiar with might simply use a thesis statement to forecast what the rest of the essay is going to discuss or to communicate what the topic is. Thatââ¬â¢s not the case here. If your thesis statement doesnââ¬â¢t make a claim or establish your position, youââ¬â¢ll need to go back to the drawing board. Example Thesis Statements Here are a couple of examples of thesis statements that arenââ¬â¢t argumentative and thesis statements that are argumentative The sky is blue. The thesis statement above conveys a fact, not a claim, so itââ¬â¢s not argumentative. To keep the sky blue, governments must pass clean air legislation and regulate emissions. The second example states a position on a topic. Whatââ¬â¢s the topic in that second sentence? The best way to keep the sky blue. And what position is being conveyed? That the best way to keep the sky blue is by passing clean air legislation and regulating emissions. Some people would probably respond to that thesis statement with gusto: ââ¬Å"No! Governments should not pass clean air legislation and regulate emissions! That infringes on my right to pollute the earth!â⬠And there you have it: a thesis statement that presents a clear, debatable position on a topic. Hereââ¬â¢s one more set of thesis statement examples, just to throw in a little variety: Spirituality and otherworldliness characterize A$AP Rockyââ¬â¢s portrayals of urban life and the American Dream in his rap songs and music videos. The statement above is another example that isnââ¬â¢t argumentative, but you could write a really interesting analytical essay with that thesis statement. Long live A$AP! Now hereââ¬â¢s another one that is argumentative: To give students an understanding of the role of the American Dream in contemporary life, teachers should incorporate pop culture, like the music of A$AP Rocky, into their lessons and curriculum. The argument in this one? Teachers should incorporate more relevant pop culture texts into their curriculum. This thesis statement also gives a specific reason for making the argument above: To give students an understanding of the role of the American Dream in contemporary life. If you can let your reader know why youââ¬â¢re making your argument in your thesis statement, it will help them understand your argument better. An actual image of you killing your argumentative essay prompts after reading this article! Breaking Down the Sections of An Argumentative Essay Now that you know how to pick a topic for an argumentative essay and how to make a strong claim on your topic in a thesis statement, youââ¬â¢re ready to think about writing the other sections of an argumentative essay. These are the parts that will flesh out your argument and support the claim you made in your thesis statement. Like other types of essays, argumentative essays typically have three main sections: the introduction, the body, and the conclusion. Within those sections, there are some key elements that a reader- and especially an exam scorer or professor- is always going to expect you to include. Letââ¬â¢s look at a quick outline of those three sections with their essential pieces here: Introduction paragraph with a thesis statement (which we just talked about) New paragraph that starts with a topic sentence presenting Argumentative Point #1 Support Point #1 with evidence Explain/interpret the evidence with your own, original commentary (AKA, the fun part!) New paragraph that starts with a topic sentence presenting Argumentative Point #2 Support Point #2 with evidence Explain/interpret the evidence with your own, original commentary New paragraph that starts with a topic sentence presenting Argumentative Point #3 Support Point #3 with evidence Explain/interpret the evidence with your own, original commentary New paragraph addressing opposing viewpoints (more on this later!) Concluding paragraph Now, there are some key concepts in those sections that youââ¬â¢ve got to understand if youââ¬â¢re going to master how to write an argumentative essay. To make the most of the body section, you have to know how to support your claim (your thesis statement), what evidence and explanations are and when you should use them, and how and when to address opposing viewpoints. To finish strong, youââ¬â¢ve got to have a strategy for writing a stellar conclusion. This probably feels like a big deal! The body and conclusion make up most of the essay, right? Letââ¬â¢s get down to it, then. How to Write a Strong Argument Once you have your topic and thesis, youââ¬â¢re ready for the hard part: actually writing your argument. If you make strategic choices- like the ones weââ¬â¢re about to talk about- writing a strong argumentative essay wonââ¬â¢t feel so difficult. There are three main areas where you want to focus your energy as you develop a strategy for how to write an argumentative essay: supporting your claim- your thesis statement- in your essay, addressing other viewpoints on your topic, and writing a solid conclusion. If you put thought and effort into these three things, youââ¬â¢re much more likely to write an argumentative essay thatââ¬â¢s engaging, persuasive, and memorable...aka A+ material. Focus Area 1: Supporting Your Claim With Evidence and Explanations So youââ¬â¢ve chosen your topic, decided what your position will be, and written a thesis statement. But like we see in comment threads across the Internet, if you make a claim and donââ¬â¢t back it up with evidence, what do people say? ââ¬Å"Whereââ¬â¢s your proof?â⬠ââ¬Å"Show me the facts!â⬠ââ¬Å"Do you have any evidence to support that claim?â⬠Of course youââ¬â¢ve done your research like we talked about. Supporting your claim in your thesis statement is where that research comes in handy. You canââ¬â¢t just use your research to state the facts, though. Remember your reader? Theyââ¬â¢re going to expect you to do some of the dirty work of interpreting the evidence for them. Thatââ¬â¢s why itââ¬â¢s important to know the difference between evidence and explanations, and how and when to use both in your argumentative essay. What Evidence Is and When You Should Use It Evidence can be material from any authoritative and credible outside source that supports your position on your topic. In some cases, evidence can come in the form of photos, video footage, or audio recordings. In other cases, you might be pulling reasons, facts, or statistics from news media articles, public policy, or scholarly books or journals. There are some clues you can look for that indicate whether or not a source is credible, such as whether: The website where you found the source ends in .edu, .gov, or .org The source was published by a university press The source was published in a peer-reviewed journal The authors did extensive research to support the claims they make in the source This is just a short list of some of the clues that a source is likely a credible one, but just because a source was published by a prestigious press or the authors all have PhDs doesnââ¬â¢t necessarily mean it is the best piece of evidence for you to use to support your argument. In addition to evaluating the sourceââ¬â¢s credibility, youââ¬â¢ve got to consider what types of evidence might come across as most persuasive in the context of the argument youââ¬â¢re making and who your readers are. In other words, stepping back and getting a birdââ¬â¢s eye view of the entire context of your argumentative paper is key to choosing evidence that will strengthen your argument. On some exams, like the AP exams, you may be given pretty strict parameters for what evidence to use and how to use it. You might be given six short readings that all address the same topic, have 15 minutes to read them, then be required to pull material from a minimum of three of the short readings to support your claim in an argumentative essay. When the sources are handed to you like that, be sure to take notes that will help you pick out evidence as you read. Highlight, underline, put checkmarks in the margins of your exam . . . do whatever you need to do to begin identifying the material that you find most helpful or relevant. Those highlights and check marks might just turn into your quotes, paraphrases, or summaries of evidence in your completed exam essay. What Explanations Are and When You Should Use Them Now you know that taking a strategic mindset toward evidence and explanations is critical to grasping how to write an argumentative essay. Unfortunately, evidence doesnââ¬â¢t speak for itself. While it may be obvious to you, the researcher and writer, how the pieces of evidence youââ¬â¢ve included are relevant to your audience, it might not be as obvious to your reader. Thatââ¬â¢s where explanations- or analysis, or interpretations- come in. You never want to just stick some quotes from an article into your paragraph and call it a day. You do want to interpret the evidence youââ¬â¢ve included to show your reader how that evidence supports your claim. Now, that doesnââ¬â¢t mean youââ¬â¢re going to be saying, ââ¬Å"This piece of evidence supports my argument because...â⬠. Instead, you want to comment on the evidence in a way that helps your reader see how it supports the position you stated in your thesis. Weââ¬â¢ll talk more about how to do this when we show you an example of a strong body paragraph from an argumentative essay here in a bit. Understanding how to incorporate evidence and explanations to your advantage is really important. Hereââ¬â¢s why: when youââ¬â¢re writing an argumentative essay, particularly on standardized tests or the AP exam, the exam scorers canââ¬â¢t penalize you for the position you take. Instead, their evaluation is going to focus on the way you incorporated evidence and explained it in your essay. Focus Area 2: How- and When- to Address Other Viewpoints Why would we be making arguments at all if there werenââ¬â¢t multiple views out there on a given topic? As you do research and consider the background surrounding your topic, youââ¬â¢ll probably come across arguments that stand in direct opposition to your position. Oftentimes, teachers will ask you to ââ¬Å"address the oppositionâ⬠in your argumentative essay. What does that mean, though, to ââ¬Å"address the opposition?â⬠Opposing viewpoints function kind of like an elephant in the room. Your audience knows theyââ¬â¢re there. In fact, your audience might even buy into an opposing viewpoint and be waiting for you to show them why your viewpoint is better. If you donââ¬â¢t, it means that youââ¬â¢ll have a hard time convincing your audience to buy your argument. Addressing the opposition is a balancing act: you donââ¬â¢t want to undermine your own argument, but you donââ¬â¢t want to dismiss the validity of opposing viewpoints out-of-hand or ignore them altogether, which can also undermine your argument. This isnââ¬â¢t the only acceptable approach, but itââ¬â¢s common practice to wait to address the opposition until close to the end of an argumentative essay. But why? Well, waiting to present an opposing viewpoint until after youââ¬â¢ve thoroughly supported your own argument is strategic. You arenââ¬â¢t going to go into great detail discussing the opposing viewpoint: youââ¬â¢re going to explain what that viewpoint is fairly, but youââ¬â¢re also going to point out whatââ¬â¢s wrong with it. It can also be effective to read the opposition through the lens of your own argument and the evidence youââ¬â¢ve used to support it. If the evidence youââ¬â¢ve already included supports your argument, it probably doesnââ¬â¢t support the opposing viewpoint. Without being too obvious, it might be worth pointing this out when you address the opposition. Great conclusions get your readers to check the "I Agree" box on your entire essay. Focus Area #3: Writing the Conclusion Itââ¬â¢s common to conclude an argumentative essay by reiterating the thesis statement in some way, either by reminding the reader what the overarching argument was in the first place or by reviewing the main points and evidence that you covered. You donââ¬â¢t just want to restate your thesis statement and review your main points and call it a day, though. So much has happened since you stated your thesis in the introduction! And why waste a whole paragraph- the very last thing your audience is going to read- on just repeating yourself? Hereââ¬â¢s an approach to the conclusion that can give your audience a fresh perspective on your argument: reinterpret your thesis statement for them in light of all the evidence and explanations youââ¬â¢ve provided. Think about how your readers might read your thesis statement in a new light now that theyââ¬â¢ve heard your whole argument out. Thatââ¬â¢s what you want to leave your audience with as you conclude your argumentative paper: a brief explanation of why all that arguing mattered in the first place. If you can give your audience something to continue pondering after theyââ¬â¢ve read your argument, thatââ¬â¢s even better. One thing you want to avoid in your conclusion, though: presenting new supporting points or new evidence. That can just be confusing for your reader. Stick to telling your reader why the argument youââ¬â¢ve already made matters, and your argument will stick with your reader. A Strong Argumentative Essay: Examples For some aspiring argumentative essay writers, showing is better than telling. To show rather than tell you what makes a strong argumentative essay, weââ¬â¢ve provided three examples of possible body paragraphs for an argumentative essay below. Think of these example paragraphs as taking on the form of the ââ¬Å"Argumentative Point #1 ââ â Evidence - Explanation - Repeatâ⬠process we talked through earlier. Itââ¬â¢s always nice to be able to compare examples, so weââ¬â¢ve included three paragraphs from an argumentative paper ranging from poor (or needs a lot of improvement, if youââ¬â¢re feeling generous), to better, to best. All of the exampleparagraphs are for an essay with this thesis statement: Thesis Statement: In order to most effectively protect user data and combat the spread of disinformation, the U.S. government should implement more stringent regulations of Facebook and other social media outlets. As you read the examples, think about what makes them different, and what makes the ââ¬Å"bestâ⬠paragraph more effective than the ââ¬Å"betterâ⬠and ââ¬Å"poorâ⬠paragraphs. Here we go: A Poor Argument Example Body Paragraph: Data mining has affected a lot of people in recent years. Facebook has 2.23 billion users from around the world, and though it would take a huge amount of time and effort to make sure a company as big as Facebook was complying with privacy regulations in countries across the globe, adopting a common framework for privacy regulation in more countries would be the first step. In fact, Mark Zuckerberg himself supports adopting a global framework for privacy and data protection, which would protect more users than before. Whatââ¬â¢s Wrong With This Example? First, letââ¬â¢s look at the thesis statement. Ask yourself: does this make a claim that some people might agree with, but others might disagree with? The answer is yes. Some people probably think that Facebook should be regulated, while others might believe thatââ¬â¢s too much government intervention. Also, there are definitely good, reliable sources out there that will help this writer prove their argument. So this paper is off to a strong start! Unfortunately, this writer doesnââ¬â¢t do a great job proving their thesis in their body paragraph. First, the topic sentence- aka the first sentence of the paragraph- doesnââ¬â¢t make a point that directly supports the position stated in the thesis. Weââ¬â¢re trying to argue that government regulation will help protect user data and combat the spread of misinformation, remember? The topic sentence should make a point that gets right at that, instead of throwing out a random fact about data mining. Second, because the topic sentence isnââ¬â¢t focused on making a clear point, the rest of the paragraph doesnââ¬â¢t have much relevant information, and it fails to provide credible evidence that supports the claim made in the thesis statement. For example, it would be a great idea to include exactly what Mark Zuckerberg said! So while thereââ¬â¢s definitely some relevant information in this paragraph, it needs to be presented with more evidence. A Better Argument Example Body Paragraph: Over the past several years, one of the biggest consequences of the lack of regulation of social media platforms has been the mining of Facebook user data, which has been exposed by the news media and the U.S. government. Investigations by the Federal Trade Commission (F.T.C.) have shown that Facebook allowed its data-sharing partners to mine user data without disclosing this information to Facebook users. Specifically, Facebook allowed Cambridge Analytica, a political data firm, to gather the personal information of tens of millions of people- information the firm then used to aid a particular 2016 presidential campaign. In the future, increased government regulation of Facebookââ¬â¢s data sharing partnerships could prevent such things from happening. Whatââ¬â¢s Wrong With This Example? This paragraph is a bit better than the first one, but it still needs some work. The topic sentence is a bit too long, and it doesnââ¬â¢t make a point that clearly supports the position laid out in the thesis statement. The reader already knows that mining user data is a big issue, so the topic sentence would be a great place to make a point about why more stringent government regulations would most effectively protect user data. Thereââ¬â¢s also a problem with how the evidence is incorporated in this example. While there is some relevant, persuasive evidence included in this paragraph, thereââ¬â¢s no explanation of why or how it is relevant. Remember, you canââ¬â¢t assume that your evidence speaks for itself: you have to interpret its relevance for your reader. That means including at least a sentence that tells your reader why the evidence youââ¬â¢ve chosen proves your argument. A Best- But Not Perfect!- Argument Example Body Paragraph: Though Facebook claims to be implementing company policies that will protect user data and stop the spread of misinformation, its attempts have been unsuccessful compared to those made by the federal government. When PricewaterhouseCoopers conducted a Federal Trade Commission-mandated assessment of Facebookââ¬â¢s partnerships with Microsoft and the makers of the Blackberry handset in 2013, the team found limited evidence that Facebook had monitored or even checked that its partners had complied with Facebookââ¬â¢s existing data use policies. In fact, Facebookââ¬â¢s own auditors confirmed the PricewaterhouseCoopers findings, despite the fact that Facebook claimed that the company was making greater attempts to safeguard usersââ¬â¢ personal information. In contrast, bills written by Congress have been more successful in changing Facebookââ¬â¢s practices than Facebookââ¬â¢s own company policies have. According to The Washington Post, The Honest Ads Act of 2017 ââ¬Å"created public demand for transparency and changed how social media companies disclose online political advertising.â⬠These policy efforts, though thus far unsuccessful in passing legislation, have nevertheless pushed social media companies to change some of their practices by sparking public outrage and negative media attention. Why This Example Is The Best This paragraph isnââ¬â¢t perfect, but it is the most effective at doing some of the things that you want to do when you write an argumentative essay. First, the topic sentences get to the point . . . and itââ¬â¢s a point that supports and explains the claim made in the thesis statement! It gives a clear reason why our claim in favor of more stringent government regulations is a good claim: because Facebook has failed to self-regulate its practices. This paragraph also provides strong evidence and specific examples that support the point made in the topic sentence. The evidence presented shows specific instances in which Facebook has failed to self-regulate, and other examples where the federal government has successfully influenced regulation of Facebookââ¬â¢s practices for the better. Perhaps most importantly, though, this writer explains why the evidence is important. The bold sentence in the example is where the writer links the evidence back to their opinion. In this case, they explain that the pressure from Federal Trade Commission and Congress- and the threat of regulation- have helped change Facebook for the better. Why point out that this isnââ¬â¢t a perfect paragraph, though? Because you wonââ¬â¢t be writing perfect paragraphs when youââ¬â¢re taking timed exams either. But get this: you donââ¬â¢t have to write perfect paragraphs to make a good score on AP exams or even on an essay you write for class. Like in this example paragraph, you just have to effectively develop your position by appropriately and convincingly relying on evidence from good sources. Top 3 Takeaways For Writing Argumentative Essays This is all great information, right? If (when) you have to write an argumentative essay, youââ¬â¢ll be ready. But when in doubt, remember these three things about how to write an argumentative essay, and youââ¬â¢ll emerge victorious: Takeaway #1: Read Closely and Carefully This tip applies to every aspect of writing an argumentative essay. From making sure youââ¬â¢re addressing your prompt, to really digging into your sources, to proofreading your final paper...youââ¬â¢ll need to actively and pay attention! This is especially true if youââ¬â¢re writing on the clock, like during an AP exam. Takeaway #2: Make Your Argument the Focus of the Essay Define your position clearly in your thesis statement and stick to that position! The thesis is the backbone of your paper, and every paragraph should help prove your thesis in one way or another. But sometimes you get to the end of your essay and realize that youââ¬â¢ve gotten off topic, or that your thesis doesnââ¬â¢t quite fit. Donââ¬â¢t worry- if that happens, you can always rewrite your thesis to fit your paper! Takeaway #3: Use Sources to Develop Your Argument- and Explain Them Nothing is as powerful as good, strong evidence. First, make sure youââ¬â¢re finding credible sources that support your argument. Then you can paraphrase, briefly summarize, or quote from your sources as you incorporate them into your paragraphs. But remember the most important part: you have to explain why youââ¬â¢ve chosen that evidence and why it proves your thesis. What's Next? John Stuart Mill (1808-73) believed in an ethical theory known as utilitarianism. There are many formulation of this theory. One such is, "Everyone should act in such a way to bring the largest possibly balance of good over evil for everyone involved." However, good is a relative term. What is good? Utilitarians disagreed on this subject. Mill made a distinction between happiness and sheer sensual pleasure. He defines happiness in terms of higher order pleasure (i.e. social enjoyments, intellectual). In his Utilitarianism (1861), Mill described this principle as follows: According to the Greatest Happiness Principle ? The ultimate end, end, with reference to and for the sake of which all other things are desirable (whether we are considering our own good or that of other people), is an existence exempt as far as possible from pain, and as rich as possible enjoyments. Therefore, based on this statement, three ideas may be identified: (1) The goodness of an act may be determined by the consequences of that act. (2) Consequences are determined by the amount of happiness or unhappiness caused. (3) A "good" man is one who considers the other man's pleasure (or pain) as equally as his own. Each person's happiness is equally important. Mill believed that a free act is not an undetermined act. It is determined by the unconstrained choice of the person performing the act. Either external or internal forces compel an unfree act. Mill also determined that every situation depends on how you address the situation and that you are only responsible for your feelings and actions. You decide how you feel about what you think you saw. Immanuel Kant (1724-1804) had an interesting ethical system. It is based on a belief that the reason is the final authority for morality. Actions of any sort, he believed, must be undertaken from a sense of duty dictated by reason, and no action performed for expediency or solely in obedience to law or custom can be regarded as moral. A moral act is an act done for the "right" reasons. Kant would argue that to make a promise for the wrong reason is not moral - you might as well not make the promise. You must have a duty code inside of you or it will not come through in your actions otherwise. Our reasoning ability will always allow us to know what our duty is. Kant described two types of common commands given by reason: the hypothetical imperative, which dictates a given course of action to reach a specific end; and the categorical imperative, which dictates a course of action that must be followed because of its rightness and necessity. The categorical imperative is the basis of morality and was stated by Kant in these words: "Act as if the maxim of your action were to become through your will and general natural law." Therefore, before proceeding to act, you must decide what rule you would be following if you were to act, whether you are willing for that rule to be followed by everyone all over. If you are willing to universalize the act, it must be moral; if you are not, then the act is morally impermissible. Kant believed that the welfare of each individual should properly be regarded as an end in itself, as stated in the Formula of the End in Itself: Act in such a way that you always treat humanity, whether in your own person or in the person of any other, never simply as a means but always at the same time as an end. Kant believes that moral rules are exceptionless. Therefore, it is wrong to kill in all situations, even those of self-defense. This is belief comes from the Universal Law theory. Since we would never want murder to become a universal law, then it must be not moral in all situations. So which of the two theories would make a better societal order? That is a difficult question because both theories have "problems." For Kant it is described above, his rules are absolute. Killing could never be make universal, therefore it is wrong in each and every situation. There are never any extenuating circumstances, such Julien Richterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05841748398354630238noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8949609144360044191.post-62877716008760340532020-03-11T22:49:00.001-07:002020-03-11T22:49:02.505-07:00Facts and Opinions in Opinion Essay SamplesFacts and Opinions in Opinion Essay Samples Facts and Opinions in Opinion Essay Samples In an opinion essay, the focus of attention is your own point of view, as opposed to an argumentative essay, for example, where you basically defend another persons opinion. A good opinion essay should include your point of view, stated in the introductory paragraph, reasoning for your opinion, and, of course, a conclusion, where you sum up your argument. Remember to back up your reasoning with examples. Preferably, place each opinion in a separate paragraph. You can also add opposing or supporting opinions of experts or your peers, but you have to remember that any opinion should be clearly stated. The most important part of this essay is to effectively prove your point of view. For that, you have to build a solid argument. Normally we distinguish between two main types of argument, inductive and deductive. Which one to use in your essay largely depends on your thesis statement. In this post, we will learn about the two types of reasoning and if an inductive argument is suitable for an opinion essay. Types of Argument An inductive argument basically means that your thesis statement is a projection of a more general statement, and your reasoning will increase or decrease the probability of your conclusion being true. The later depends on how strong or weak your reasoning is. For example, if your evidence is reliable, you have more chances to prove your point. This type of argument is more suited for presenting an opposing point of view, because it will give you room to refute. In a deductive argument, the truth of the conclusion is logically derived from the reasoning: if, then For example, if it rains, then the road will certainly be wet; we cannot conclude that it rains because the road is wet, there can be other reasons for that. This is a good type of argument to defend your point of view. For you the conclusion is true, by default, and you only need to break it into elements that will prove your reasoning. How to Support Your Opinion with Facts To prove your point of view, you have to build a good argument that will explain how you have come to a certain conclusion. An essential part of this is to present your facts clearly and in an easy to understand manner, so that your audience is not left guessing. It is important to understand that facts are verified pieces of information, not based on opinions. The effectiveness of your argument depends on the way you present data: define the point and present only the most valuable information; raw data is for you to analyze, not the reader. find a way to break up the text: pictures, charts, diagrams, even statistics will let the readers mind rest, but dont overload your paper with graphics. if you have a boring topic, try to make it more fun with a writing style, or couple of fun facts. The key to making the audience believe in your point of view is believing in it yourself. Business environment is increasingly getting competitive. Firms are finding it difficult to manage this competition due to a number of factors. According to Handlechner (2008), it is practically impossible to find the best strategy that would last a lifetime and will not need regular adjustment. The ability of a firm to adjust to changes within the environment will always determine its success or failure within that market.Advertising We will write a custom report sample on Identify Consumersââ¬â¢ Needs and To Ensure That Organizations Develop Strategies specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Coming up with the right strategy should always be followed by swift implementation in order to achieve the desired result. Marketing planning can be a very challenging task, especially in new markets. The planning will also depend on the size of the firm and the prod uct offered to the market. Marketing products of a hospital will be very different from electronic products. Similarly, marketing of a Volvo will be different from the way bread is marketed. When developing a marketing plan, it is always important that the concerned individuals understand the nature of the product and the target customers. As McLaughlin and Aaker (2010) state, marketing planning and strategy development should not be left to the marketing department alone. Success in this planning will benefit the entire firm. Organizational structure clearly stipulates people responsible for making various decisions at various levels. However, it should be appreciated that all members of the organization, irrespective of their position within the firm, have a role to play. They can help come up with strategies that are able to meet the demands of the market. The research will be based on Volvo which has had massive success for the past one decade (Hooley 2008, p. 92). This research focuses on analysis of various strategies that can help the firm succeed in marketing a brand new car model with a capacity to drive itself for a few minutes as it sounds warning in case the driver falls asleep. Analysis of Micro/Macro Factors SWOT Analysis SWOT analysis is one of the important tools that are very popular in analyzing a company. It helps in analyzing firms based on the existing internal and external factors. SWOT analysis would be very valuable in analyzing Volvo. It would help bring more insight to the opportunities and threats that this firm would face in the external environment. It would also help in understanding the strengths and weaknesses that the firm has. Strength of this firm selling this car lies in the security it offers to the user. The world is increasingly becoming sensitive of the safety they get from the automotive they use due to the increasing number of accidents which occur regularly.Advertising Looking for report on business economics ? Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More The concern is emanating from the fact that it has been confirmed beyond any reasonable doubt that most of the fatal accidents do occur due to lack of ability of the cars to alert users if there is any danger emanating from the driverââ¬â¢s actions (Gerber 2008, p. 67). The special feature that this car has will give it an edge in the market over other executive cars that are currently on demand. Despite the above strengths, this strategy has some weakness. The market today is very sensitive on the pricing of products. This car will occupy a special niche in the market. The firm may decide to charge premium prices for the product as a way of positioning the product in the market. The problem with this attempt is that some of the potential customers will be locked out of the market for this product. Charging a low price for this product may make it be seen as an inferior car to the existin g cars. The firm has a number of opportunities in the external environment. In the local market, this firm has managed to build a large base of loyal customers, especially in the Europe and Middle East (Ferrell 2011, p. 116). Most of the markets where this firm operates have stable governments. This means that the business environment is free from any political unrest that may disrupt normal business operations within the market. This has created a business environment that is very peaceful to various firms in the country. The firm also enjoys an economic growth in this world that has increased the purchasing power of the consumers. This increased purchasing power will help the firm to increase its operations to regions beyond its markets. The emerging technologies is also helped Volvo in its operational strategies (Hill Jones 2010, p. 70). The firm may consider adapting the emerging technologies in its operations, a fact that will help it increase it efficiency. This firm faces a number of threats in its operations. Threats may not be predictable in this industry, though the firm may try to reduce the possibility of occurrence. The first threat that this firm faces is price wars in the market. Other major competitors will keenly monitor the price that Volvo will charge on this unique product. They will then consider adjusting their products price to try to gain a competitive edge in the market (Harper 2010, p. 11). Such price wars are always dangerous to the prosperity of a business. The initiative may fail to make any serious sense. However, this threat can be minimized by ensuring that the product acquires a special niche in the market. Identification of and Rationale for Market Opportunity In order to understand the rationale for the market opportunity for this unique Volvo car, it is important to understand the objectives of coming up with such a product in the first case. The following are some of the objectives of this strategy.Advertising We w ill write a custom report sample on Identify Consumersââ¬â¢ Needs and To Ensure That Organizations Develop Strategies specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More To come up with a unique product in the current competitive market that will enable this firm tower above the market competitors. To create a market niche that other existing competitors have not thought of occupying in an attempt to make products of competitors be seen as mere substitutes of this product. To convince the market that this firm has their interest at heart. By developing this product, the firm aims at enhancing security on our roads. Strategy The strategy that this firm uses should be carefully being selected after taking into considerations a number of factors. This firm should come up with a strategy that will not make the market develop a perception that the firmââ¬â¢s interest is to generate more revenue. The firm should be able to convince customers that the move is to ensure that every driver is safe while on the road. The marketing strategy should therefore, emphasize on the security that this car offers (Chaston 2009, p. 89). The marketing proposition should be based on the fact that users get to benefit from reduced road accidents, and other extra security measures that it may have. The rationale of this strategy is to convince the consumer that with this product, their lives is well taken care of, unless something extraordinary happens. Market Opportunities The current market highly appreciates unique products in the market. As Bissoondoyal (2006, p. 78) puts it, the society has become so dependent on technology that they would prefer to have most of the tasks performed by technology. Cars have become more and more comfortable. However, there is yet to be a car that can safely drive itself on the road while the occupant is in it, relaxing. All the luxury cars available in the market need a human being to be behind the wheel to do the driv ing. This new brand of Volvo car offers something close to this dream. Given the fact that the products offers a level of security that none of the currently existing cars does, it stands the best chance to get a huge market globally. Europe and the United States will make the largest market for this product. The European market comes second to the US market in the sale of cars (Gountas Mavudo 2008, p. 112). These two markets will offer this product a massive opportunity to expand, and develop a market base that can support its operations. The two markets are also attractive because of the fact that they are developed economies. The proportions of those who are willing to purchase the product are relatively high. The rich who are looking for maximum security when travelling will definitely accept the opportunity to use the car. They will be willing to pay premium prices in order to own such a car. Conclusion Volvo may not be in the same league as Mercedes Benz and BMW. However, it is important to note that what brings this difference is the decision of the two luxurious brands to add more value to their products. Volvo has the capacity to offer this added value to their products to make them unique in the market.Advertising Looking for report on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More This firm can develop this unique product and avail it in the market in a unique way. This product will be outstanding in the market because there is yet to be a car that can parallel that capacity. With this unique product, this firm will need a unique marketing strategy that will make it acquire a unique position. The management of this firm should ensure that this product acquires its own unique niche in the market.
